Nissan LEAF Now Comes With Microsoft Windows Platform

In today's high tech world, Microsoft Windows software is installed on everything from your phone to your computer. Now Windows will be used inside your car.

Microsoft has announced its release of "Windows Embedded Automotive 7" and it will be used in the new Nissan LEAF.

Windows Embedded Automotive 7 will provide Nissan Leaf owners access to "speech commands, touch input, hands-free Bluetooth phone communications, advanced dashboard systems for access to music, maps, third-party apps and navigation, and streamlined connectivity with other devices," according to the Microsoft press release.

What is more exciting is the future possibilities of Microsoft's software. Developers have already begun to build apps for the platform that can read the LEAF's digital output in more detail and provide better feedback for users.

As software begins to make its way into cars, the competition between the biggest technology companies in the world, Microsoft, Google and Apple will heat up. What the future holds, no one knows, but you can be sure that cars will begin to adopt smarter software just as phones have been doing for the last few years.
